Unique Miniature on Ivory, of remarkably fine execution, the portraits of Robert Merry and Mrs. Merry (afterwards Mrs. Wignell), by an unknown artist. A souvenir of the early American Stage of exceptionable interest and value, the portraits never hav¬ ing been engraved. The ivory having split, it was sent to London to be repaired, which was done by the British Museum expert, and the owner having desired an expression of opinion as to the identity of the por¬ traits, the proper authority at the British Museum pro¬ nounced it to be undoubtedly the Merrys. The miniature was until recently in the possession of the family of the late William B. Wood of Philadelphia, the old Actor-Manager, who was Merry’s friend and was present at his untimely death, for an account of which, and of their friendship, see the “ Recollections of John Bernard,” the Actor. 279 Dramatic.
